Palm and the American operator Sprint have reported that the release of Palm Centro smartphone will take place on October 14. The device is positioned as the smallest Palm smartphone. The company announced the $100 price tag on a 2-year service plan (from $25). Palm Centro will be available in Red and Black color solutions. Probably smartphone details will be unveiled after today’s conference at DigitalLife event in New York.
3 Italia operator has launched LG U960 handset. The device can work in 3G networks and broadcast digital TV. It is equipped with a DVB-H tuner. Its form-factor is convenient for TV watching: the display can be rotated to the landscape position.

Yesterday Samsung and Giorgio Armani announced a stylish handset Samsung SGH-P520 Giorgio Armani. The device features a big touch sensitive display and finger-friendly interface. There are some stylish accessories for Samsung Armani handset, for example, a leather carrying case.
In addition the company will release a Bluetooth-headset under Armani brand for the SGH-P520. In fact this is the very Samsung WEP-410, but offered under a fashion logo. Probably, there won’t be any internal changes. However the Armani logo will add much the price tag.
At Pepcom event in New York Texas Instruments has introduced a proto of a cellphone projector. The device uses lasers as the light source, and an LED-based model is currently in the lab. Definitely such a module will be an extremely useful feature to any phone or a smartphone, as it eventually solves the small display problem.
In particular, the built-in projector can run presentations directly from the cellphone omitting PC. However image quality loses to professional projectors, anyway this in-handset projector will do for small presentations. There is another application of this solution, you can run video, pictures, web-pages etc. on a “big screen”.
HTC invited the press to two events in Europe: October 1 in the UK and October 2 in Germany. There will be introduced a Windows Mobile series of smartphones and communicators for 4Q 2007.
The company hasn’t unveiled any details, but supposedly we’ll see such devices as HTC Shift, HTC Nike (the announcement took place in Japan, the device called NTT DoCoMo FOMA HT110) and HTC TyTN II. In addition we expect the announcement of several new models including HTC Polaris, HTC Omni and a mysterious HTC Kii.
RIM decided to refresh the BlackBerry Curve 8300 lineup with two new communicators 8310 and 8320. T-Mobile has announced the 8320 communicator supporting Wi-Fi offering it for $250 on a 2-year service plan. In addition the device supports UMA technology (unlicensed mobile access), which will help spare money on international calls.
BlackBerry Curve 8310 differs in a GPS-module and the lack of Wi-Fi. Other specs are identical, including a QWERTY-keyboard, a QVGA-display, a 2-megapixel camera, 64 MB of onboard memory and a microSD slot.
Bluetooth SIG (Special Interest Group) has certified a brand new smartphone by HTC mentioned in the documents as the Kii. Unfortunately, there are no details on its specs. We know that it is really the smartphone without the touchscreen and powered by Windows Mobile Standard. Logic hints that the Bluetooth SIG documents mention Bluetooth 2.0+EDR support for HTC Kii. Pictures of the smartphone are also unavailable yet.
Vertu has launched another modification of its Ascent luxury phone. The main specs are similar to the rest of the series: this is a specially designed candy bar handset with a 116x148 pixels display and sapphire coating. Design was created to celebrate Ferrari’s 60th Anniversary. It resembles Ferrari 612 Scaglietti and comes with dedicated wallpaper and ring tones. There will be released mere 60 units of Vertu Ascent Ferrari 60.
Ascent Ferrari 60 placed in a titan shell involves Ferrari screws and leather materials applied inside the cars. The new Vertu Ascent is decorated with the Ferrari logo. The device comes with the Vertu Aerius Bluetooth-headset. In addition the vendor undertakes to replace leather materials of Vertu Ascent Ferrari 60 every six months.
Amoi has unveiled 3 new business communicators – N8, N800 and N810. They are based on Samsung SC32442 400 MHz processor and Windows Mobile 6 Professional OS. All the models feature navigation capabilities powered by a built-in 20-channel SiRF Star III GPS-receiver.

The release is scheduled for this October.
BenQ has unveiled the C30 music phone. The device is made in the candy bar form with media player buttons on the top. The C30 features an FM-radio and a VGA-camera. On the whole we have a low-mid range handset.

Acer has extended its Ferrari notebook lineup with the 1100 model. It is packed in a carbonic fiber shell. The device is based on AMD Turion 64 X2 2.3 GHz processor and ATI Radeon X1250 3D graphical adapter and up to 960 MB of HyperMemory. There is a 12.1” WXGA display. In addition Acer Ferrari 1100 comes with a DVD SuperMulti DL and up to 250 GB HDD.
There is the support of Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g wireless networks. It also features DASP protection technology, a fingerprints sensor and Dolby 3D sound technology. Acer Ferrari 1100 is supplied with Windows Vista Ultimate, Windows Vista Business or Windows Vista Home Premium OS.
More and more manufacturers have been offering docking stations or cradles for portable devices, which can recharge batteries and play music via built-in speakers. One of them is iHome iHC5.
The new product supports some mobile phones and the iPod player family. With the Bluetooth-module it can communicate music from a mobile phone with A2DP to a cradle. There is an FM-tuner and alarm clock. Besides the cradle can work on batteries. The price tag for the iHC5 is $150.

MontaVista Software, a supplier of commercial Linux OS distributives, announced it joined LiMo Foundation. The company aims to support LiMo Foundation activity in distributing Linux platform for mobile devices. The LiMo Foundation non-commercial project was launched this January to create a competitive platform for Linux-based mobile devices to be available worldwide. LiMo-handsets are expected in the first half of 2008.
The cooperation with MontaVista Software will be a milestone in the LiMo project, believe the participants. Currently over 35 million smartphones by NEC, Motorola, Panasonic and other vendors are powered by MontaVista Mobilinux distributive. This is more than other commercial Linux-platforms have.
Some web sources have posted the pictures of a new SE handset prototype. It might be an heir of Sony Ericsson W880. The new Walkman handset is equipped with a 3.2-megapixel camera and a frontal camera for video calls, it probably supports 3G. Compared to the previous model it has larger size. We’ve already mentioned a mysterious Windows Mobile-communicator by Samsung introduced at GITEX event. Till this moment there was scarce data on this device from the video clip. The Unwired has posted the specs of the communicator called the SGH-i780. Powered by Windows Mobile 6 Professional it works in GSM/GPRS/EDGE 900/1800/1900 MHz and UMTS/HSDPA 2100 MHz networks.
The source says the new communicator comes with a 2.55” 320x320 touchscreen display, a QWERTY-keyboard, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR and Wi-Fi b/g wireless modules, a 2-megapixel camera, a frontal VGA-camera and an integrated GPS-receiver. Samsung SGH-i780 measures 115.9x61.3x13.3 mm. An interesting thing about it is that this is the first communicator with the square display powered by Windows Mobile 6. the release date hasn’t been unveiled yet.
